Academic use
To support global cancer research, COSMIC data is free for the academic community, enabling those educating and conducting research in non-profit settings to access high-quality somatic mutation data that drives discoveries.
Academic use refers to the use of COSMIC data, either from our website or from our downloads, in research and development within a not-for-profit organisation only.
Commercial use
Our commercial customers play a vital role in supporting COSMIC’s research and development. Through their licensing fees, they enable us to expand and enhance our world-leading cancer mutation Knowledgebase.
Commercial use refers to the use of COSMIC data either from our downloads or our website:
- In a commercial product or service
- In patient service or in clinical reporting
- In a research and development (commercial /for-profit setting)
In product specs/ information for panels and reference material, including public-facing websites

All users must be registered to use the COSMIC Knowledgebase.
Please use your organisational email address to register for an account.
Commercial users will be contacted by our commercial team following the registration process to complete their licensing agreement.
